Ingredients and Manufacture

The quality of our ingredients makes all the difference to how our pies taste. And we insist on only using natural ingredients.

This is why our pies are clean: we refuse to put any artificial additives, flavour enhancers or colours in our pies, or any hydrogenated fats. And the salt levels are within government guidelines.

But that's just the start of how we care about our ingredients.

Chicken breast The chicken we use is breast meat only - leaner and more tender than other cuts. Then we make sure we have a higher meat level in the filling and a higher filling-to-pastry ratio.
100 layers Our best puff pastry is butter-enriched French-style puff which we top with a free range egg glaze, and we make sure it contains more than 100 layers (it's proper puff pastry!). It took us weeks to achieve the perfect puff.
30g square pie On top of that, we put so much into our Squared Pies that they're actually bigger than most on the market, weighing in at 300g (11oz).

We carefully select fresh British-assured red meat from farmers we know. In fact we are the first pie maker to gain EBLEX accreditation, a guarantee of the quality of meat in our steak pies. The quality standard from the English Beef and Lamb Executive covers assurance, traceability and food safety, ensuring our beef steak is produced to the highest quality standards.
